Certain Democratic figures such as Rueben Gallegos and Jon Ossof, two younger faces of the establishment Democratic Party, have come out with comments that seems critical of the Left. It is interesting that Democrats are forced to do this, however, Republicans seems to openly embrace or do little to nothing to critique the open secret that fascism is popular amongst the Right Wing, notably the youth.

People shouldn’t be afraid of American Socialism because…we still live in a Democratic Republic. The Socialists won’t win all seats or levels of power, but rather they are new voice for an emerging and long overdue voice of the American public. Their voice represents an evolution of American’s seeing through the idealistic promises of capitalism, nationalism, etc. Americans are shedding their “CIA Cold War” indoctrination where they now understand differences between Socialism, Communism, Marxism, etc. Americans now see how the “hot dogs are made”, i.e., the brutal truths of running an Empire, which involves the exploitation of people both international an domestic.

The USA is evolving into something akin the UK’s political system but uniquely American. The UK has three to four political parties. Labour Party which represents a coalition of Socialists and Labor oriented movements, then you have Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, and Greens. Because the USA only has two parties, the Democratic Socialists are forced to be in the Democratic Party, where the Democratic Party of the USA are the Liberal Democrats in the UK. Figures such as John Fetterman stated that Democratic Socialists need their own party, but this is a highly divisive statement because the Right Wing has cohesion, and unfortunately many Democrats – being Centrists – empowers the Republican Party. If anything figures such as Fetterman need to LEAVE the Democratic Party.

What the American Left wants or will end up getting is something akin to François Mitterrand – Wikipedia who led France’s longest Socialist Presidency. Mitterand balanced the wings of the various Leftist factions.

A lot of people get scared of the word socialism, but it is a broad spectrum of ideologies. The type of socialism emerging in the USA is not what Conservatives allege it as being. Conservatives argue that the American Left wants Marxist Leninism which is like most totalitarian Communist nations where everything is owned by the state under the auspices of the “Dictatorship of the Proletariat”. Everyone is forced to be equal and profiteering is illegal.

Conservatives attack the Left on the economics front but also on the moral front due to issues in American cities such as drugs and homelessness but the irony is that Socialism does not mean lawlessness and if anything, mayors such as Seattle’s mayor are not real Socialist. Rather, mayors such Katie Wilson of Seattle, despite calling herself a socialist, I would argue that she is a Far Left Liberal still relying on a charity based capitalist framework to mitigate issues, yet all this does is monetize the issues since fixing issues are not lucrative, notably because of the large bureaucracy of non-profits with overhead such as salaries which arise. A real socialist would advocate for true government solutions rather than middle ground private-public partnerships. A real socialist would want more government housing, workers, etc. The moment you start privatizing, the more the bill goes up. Many government workers despite not making lots of money are supplemented with benefits. Social issues such as drugs and homelessness need to be attacked with almost military precision, and yes, you need cops to help just as much as you need social workers, public housing administrators, etc. The problem with “liberal cities” is merely a misalignment of ideologies. Washington State and Oregon decriminalized drugs but this just attracted “drug tourists” who were either already homeless or soon-to-be homeless, so these states added onto already terrible homelessness issue, which was compounded by the capitalist side of the equation notably with new and very expensive construction which prices out working-class families. Then compound this by laws where cops can’t enforce drug crimes, which empowers the addicts and the dealers. Even if people do wind up in jail, because of the closure of government facilities such as mental health asylums, you end up with jails (often privatized) where you get addicts, dealers, and the mentally ill all festering under one roof and creating a new social hierarchy of criminality, communicable diseases, etc.

All of this insanity is not Socialism. Drugs were actually illegal in many Communists and Socialist nations, and they had police, military, etc. This is why I am calling the American Left as utopian. They have no realpolitik, despite having the needed class consciousness and analytical frameworks to dissect systemic power, e.g., intersectionality.

On the moral front, I can admit that Left which is a largely an ambiguous construct of various factions and ideologies, where they all have in common a sort of egalitarian sentiment, is that their social policies have been failures. By social policies I mean the decriminalization of drugs notably. The reason for this failure is either one of two things. The first being an emotion-based idealistic utopianism in which seemingly noble ideas precede the material infrastructure required to fulfill the ideas and solve problems; or, secondly, and more nefariously, a pathological strategy to make things worst in order to force the issue so that people justify government expansion of social services. Conservatives would argue the latter, whereas Progressives would argue the first. I believe Leftist naiveté based in emotion, personal inaction (despite having online opinions, etc.), and not truly thinking thru the ideological tenants of what American Leftism truly is or should be is the reason the Left has failed to capture more of the public’s approval. On the matter of ideology, the Left for example is often seen as being anti-police, but the irony is that Leftist nations, notably Far Leftist nations who adhered to Communism had police. The USSR had cops because you still have crime in Communist nations. So, the American Left saying they want to abolish police (if we are to take that statement seriously and not a slightly veiled threat with no fangs), is inconsistent with the reality of Socialist nations across the spectrum of socialist ideologies. To further add irony to the Left’s ideological inconsistencies – despite me considering myself a Leftist – is that socialist thinkers such as Karl Marx considered themselves to be realist and scientific as opposed to utopian socialists such as those who preceded Marx. This is important because the American Left is arguably influenced by Marx, yet their ideology seems more anchored in utopianism than realism. It is the equivalent of walking before crawling. But the Left can easily apply realism but that may mean walking back certain statements or slogans. I suspect this is what is going one with Democratic Socialists as they distance themselves from the earlier “woke era” which they call “woke 1.0”.

I doubt the “the Left” which is not really as much of a coherent thing as what Republicans or even those on the Left itself would argue is being pathological and trying to burn down society. Such as an allegation may thread upon the philosophy of Louis-Auguste Blanqui, where Blanquism advocates for a small vanguard of intellectuals infiltrating institutions of power to bring forth the worker’s revolution.

Rather the Left has inconsistent policies and ideals overweight realism.

But back on course, Conservatives never explain or can’t understand that Marxism is a theory of Communism and Communism is a style of Socialism.

You can be a Socialist and anti-Communist or sympathetic to some of Marx’s ideas (e.g., alienation, class conflict, etc.) but disagree with his ideas on government.

What the American Left seems to want is return to Progressive & New Deal Era policies to hedge and reform capitalism but you still have capitalism.

Calling oneself a socialist is akin to a battle flag or moniker of people fed up and since the Right Wing will call them Socialist anyways, then why not wear it with honor. Republicans always called Democrats, Socialists, so why not?

The emerging Socialism in the USA wants taxing the rich, empowering labor, universal health care insurance as an option to compete with the private sector (Medicare for All, not just the elderly), etc.

I like to explain the economics as: Imagine capitalism with supply and demand, competition, trade, etc., as we have it now but flip the relationship of “boss vs worker” on its head or make the pyramid where the 1% resides atop as less steep. Essentially keep capitalism but give more to the workers and people. If a billionaire exist then that means people aren’t getting paid enough or not getting a fair share of equity in the companies they expend their labor in.
