(Theory) West African & Anglo-Saxon Protestants (WA-ASP). The unique ethnogenesis of African American Culture in Western Civilization by Quinton Mitchell

African American culture if you step back objectively is essentially Afro-Anglo-Saxon-Celtic

History does not stop and history is an evolutionary chronicle of human development. We often make the mistake of treating “race” and “ethnicity” as static non-evolutionary (unchanging) concepts, typically since race as we see it, is a modernist construct that arose alongside European colonialism over other groups of humans.

But, we often make the mistake of seeing race as concrete in my opinion, because of the now debated thesis of neolibieral capitalist thinker, Francis Fukuyama, with his “End of History” idea, which relating to concepts of race/ethnicity and culture, makes the mistake of turning culture into commodities or “brand names” of post-Treaty of Westhpahlian nation-states, when in fact culture is always shifting and will contiue to evolve. Note: The Treaty of Westphalia is often agreed to be the beginning of modern nation-states.

For example, as we debate race in the modern world, we often forget fascinating historical events such as the fact that Asians from as far as Mongolia left a genetic and culture imprint on Europe. We often don’t talk about how the very language in which I’m writing this in, i.e., English, is a type of Indo-European language, falling under a family of languages that includes distant tongues as far as India. We forget the fact that Germanic warriors set up a Vandal Kingdom in North Africa in modern day Algeria and Libya. Or, we forget the fact that sub-saharan “black” Africans sometimes found themselves in Europe as far back as the Roman Period and even further back with the Greeks making note of black Africans with figures such as Memnon (likely from ancient Ethiopia).

We often never talk about how there was a dynasty of Roman Emperors were from North Africa and the Middle East. We never talk about what we consider to be modern German, British, etc., are fairly new concepts in the span of history and are based on a confluence of diverse factors, groups, tribes, migrations, etc. We even forget to acknowledge that Iron Age settlers from the Middle East with more advanced farming techniques settled in Europe as ice-sheets thawed and these settlers merged this “old Europeans” of the Ice Age period, and later Central Asian and Iranian peoples invaded.

Meghan Markle marrying Prince Harry is in a way an acknowledgement of an open secret that’s always been staring us in the face, which is that African Americans (similar to other black diaspora peoples under the yoke of English culture, e.g. Black Canadians, African Americans, Jamaicans, etc.) are a Western peoples branching strongly from English Anglo-Saxon “Western” culture.

For example, the Jamaican dialect is noted for being influenced by Irish settlers alongside African slaves. If we hear “ebonics” or African American Vernacular English and compare it to Cockney accents of London, there’s many similarities in the sound.

These Black English Diaspora groups often have varying levels of European DNA to do sexual relationships between Africans and Europeans in the colonial period and onward. A big reason why we still have such a discernible visibly black population is because colonial governments such as those of Virginia noticed an uptick in “yellow” people, i.e., bi-racial people, and put bans on the practice of interracial relationships, but also after the invention of the cotton-gin by Eli Whitney, a new group of black Africans were imported into the United States, sustaining slavery as an institution for another 80 years until the Civil War, and slowing down racial mixing. For example in Spanish or French countries (Latin) you had categories of White with Native American, White with African, etc., but in the English colonies, such large mixed groups were hidden or discouraged.

In theory, the same way how Mestizo in Spanish culture is often the dominate ethnic group (Iberian European mixed with Native American), the English colonial-based “mulatto” culture was limited by law, thus creating a more entrenched racial binary between white and black, which was essential in maintain a divide-and-conquer system that benefited the merchant and owner classes.

The marriage of Meghan to Harry might be looked back on with history as a strategic marriage that brought black diaspora culture/peoples together with European culture, by ordaining it with the aesthetics of western nobility. Such strategic marriages have been common throughout aristocratic history, where leaders often marry into group that were subjugated as a means of including said groups into the existing power structures, e.g., a Frankish prince marrying a Bavarian or a Saxon princess, etc.

Meghan and Harry’s marriage represents in part an attempt at reconciliation and unity between white European culture and Westernized African Diaspora culture, and….in perfect fashion, there are powers at be who cannot get over the manufactured racial dialectic.

Prince Archie not only represents the unique sub-culture of black culture within Western Civilization, but he also literally represents the West, since he is a descendant of Charlemagne himself, as well as William The Conqueror, Rollo the Viking, Henry the Lion, etc.

African-Americans, largely descended from the dense rainy forests, river delta, and Sahel peoples of West Africa, experienced a process of assimilation no different than European pagan groups being assimilated such as the Germanic forest peoples such as the Saxons, the Baltic peoples, the Finns, etc.

But, we often don’t see it in this light because the modern USA has such an entrenched and dialectical viewpoint of race, i.e., innocuous racial segregation. “Proper talk” vs “ebonics”. Stiff vs rhythm. Bland vs spicy, etc. Stereotypes policed by the general public.

Black Americans experiencing slavery is similar to German tribes being forced into Christianity and serfdom by the Franks and earlier Romans. On a likely dreary day in the fall time of 782 AD, Charlemagne, the Frankish warrior king who would become Holy Roman Emperor, i.e., the de jure ruler of Western and Central Europe as crowed by the Pope, ordered the beheading of around four thousand & two hundred (4,200 estimate) Saxons.

The Saxons were a Germanic tribe of pagan forest peoples who lived in modern day Northwest Germany, first documented by the earlier Romans who tried but never truly conquered the various Germanic factions (e.g., the Alemanni, Suebi, Bavarii, Thurnigii, Macromanni, Saxons, Frisii, Franks, etc.).

Charlemagne on his blood-thirsty conquest of the pagan Germanic peoples of the dense forests of Central Europe, wanted the covert the Saxons to Christianity and he went so far as to deface sacred objects to the Saxons such as the Irminsul (a sacred tree). Charlemagne’s incentive for conquests was to spread to Christianity, not because he was the best Christian, actually far from it, but since his title of Emperor was ordained by the Pope, Charlemagne had an obligation to conquer to people, i.e., more Christians means more people for him to easily rule over and have the backing of the Papacy.

The irony is these “Earthy German forest peoples” with soul became Westernized into the expansionist ideals of Christian evangelism, and even more ironic these once enslaved Europeans would enslave black Africans.

In other words, Christianity and colonization are often synonymous with each other, and with conquest often comes crimes against humanity such as genocide, but this isn’t merely a Christian issue, but can be found in most major world religions, including Islam.

The Saxons eventually fell and were assimilated into Western culture, i.e., at the time meaning Latin based Roman Catholicism centered around a feudal model of serf-renters (sharecroppers) under a militarily-protected land-owner noble class of Frankish extraction, similar to how the Franks assimilated earlier into Western Roman culture.

Note: Frank eventually meant to go mean “free” and the word Frank influenced the word “Franchise”, i.e., what we today consider the be the right to vote, but also the modern business term of franchise meaning a business who is licensing their name of a smaller organization for a fee (nobles were granted their rank by promising to represent the central leaders and each party in a sort of pact or contract would perform a duty for each other, e.g., the lower noble charged with mustering defense and supervising agricultural production, whereas the central leader promised protection and the settling of disputes. Workers on estates, i.e., everyone else but the ruling class, were seen as “villains” coming from the word “villa”, descended from the Roman plantation system farms of villas where many conquered Celtic and Germanic people’s worked on as …slaves.

Charlemagne’s blood line eventually lost its grip over Imperial power across the empire, and those the Franks had conquered or married into took over, e.g., the Robertians of West Francia based out of Paris would eventually take over what is today France and the Capetian Dynasty arose from this. In Italy, the Uroching Family – related to Charlemagne – took over Italy for a time, yet, in the Germany, the Saxons muscled their way over leadership of the Germanic peoples of present day Germany (first under the Ottonian Dynasty and then later under the Welf Family, whom at a time controlled Saxony in the North and Bavaria in the South near the Alps).

By the late 12th century, the Duke of the Saxons, Henry the Lion (of the House of Welf. Note: The modern British royal family is in part strongly descended from the House of Welf-Este which included an Italian and German line), started to “colonize and settle” the Northeastern part of Germany and Northwest Poland, which were inhabited by a mix of Western Slavic (proto-Polish) Prussians, Obotrites, Sorbs, etc.

This colonization by German settlers lead to the violent Northern Crusades beginning around 1147. The militant and fanatical Christian Teutonic Knights and Knights of the Livonian Order, established what could be considered a “for-profit military contractor outpost” in the Baltic region. The Teutonic Knights shifted their focus from the Crusades of the Levant (in defense of Jerusalem, Acre, etc.), where they were protecting and treating (i.e., hospitalling) Christian pilgrims, to a militant force for Germanic colonization, largely as a means of staying relevant (warriors need war to exist and the fuedal social order relied on second or third sons either joining the clergy or becoming a soldier selling his service on the hopes he’d be eventually alloted his own land to manage or keep to oversee).

The Teutonic Order was accused of war crimes such as genocide against these “Wendish”, i.e., West Slavic and Baltic peoples. Dominican Priests such as John of Falkenberg would advocate for genocide against the Western Slavic and Baltic tribes as a means of justifying the war crimes of the Teutonic Order.

Rewind, before the Saxon Conquests by Charlemagne, around 300-500 AD, near the end of the Western Roman Empire, many Saxons migrated into England. This period was the “Great Migration” period where various “barbarian” tribes moved all over the European continent seeing a power vacuum left as the Romans declined. For example, the Goths would sack Rome before half of their confederation staying in Italy while the other half went treasure seeking and land grabbing in modern day Spain.

The Saxons, Angles, Frisians (the closest language to modern English), and Jutes merged with the native Briton populations created, who were influenced in part by Roman rule in Britannia, creating Anglo-Saxons and displacing the Celtic tribes who fled to the North, the West (Wales) and Southwest (modern day Cornwall), etc. Note: this period is speculated as being the origin story of King Arthur, i.e., a supposed Roman-Briton warrior with his Celtic sorcerer teacher in Merlin (representing the old ways before Christianization) fighting against the invading pagan Saxons and Germans.

This Anglo-Saxon culture in the England would go to influence modern English culture (along side, and this culture was eventually forced upon West Africans, whom like Saxons of old, were assimilated into Western “Roman” Germanic culture.

What is an African American?

A person of West African descent assimilated into Christian Anglo-Saxon and Celtic culture resulting a unique branch of Western culture that oscillates between African culture, mostly due to a re-surged interests in indigenous African customs in the Civil Rights Era, and European culture. This ethnogenesis resulting in black people with English, Irish, Welsh, Scottish and French surnames, who are overwhelmingly Protestant but with some representation within Catholicism.

African American could be defined as Afro-Celtic, Afro Saxon, Afro Saxon-Celtic, West African Teutonic, etc.

For example, my name Quinton Mitchell where this version of Mitchell comes from Scottish American settlers. Think of Larry Fitzgerald, Donovan McNabb, Martin Luther King, Jr., etc. Before the 1970s, most Black Americans named their children these Germanic Celtic names.

The same process by which the Saxons of old were assimilated into the West, the forest peoples of West African experienced the same thing, ironically from descendants of Saxon influenced culture. Also, the same way that European pagans of the Baltic fought against German (heavily influenced by Saxon culture) and how Saxons fought against the earlier Franks, African-Americans resisted white supremacy.

But, the reason we don’t include African Americans within the iconography of Western Civilization is due to (A) racism by white supremacy, and (B) reactionary movement to that supremacy which is a de-colonial Pan-Africanist mindset espoused by black nationalists, which is often associated with political Left as is as of 2022, considering this ideology could be argued as inspired by Marxist ideology which seeks to flatten hierarchical systems.

Attempts by African Americans to accept their place within Western Civilization as activate participants is often seen as “selling out” by black nationalists and an affront by white supremacists to the status quote. This all seems to be by design in my opinion, i.e., keeping African Americans out of the glory of Western Civilization by convincing us to not want to participate, i.e., encouraging self-determinism and segregation as a means of achieving what white supremacy wanted along, aka, segregation of the races.

In other words, African Americans are Western people but traditionally discriminated against from owning what rightfully belongs to them as well, i.e., a stake in the longevity of Western Civilization. More disturbing, many Black Americans have convinced themselves to disassociate from the West.

Further, due to the rise of black nationalism which often basis itself in opposition to “whiteness”, this ideology too has erased the uniqueness of African Americans with Western Civilization, because so much of Black Nationalism sees no sort of reconciliation process as being possible, and often defines itself, ever-growing with a dialectal mindset, i.e., doing the opposite for opposites sake as a means of defining blackness as separate from “white”.

For example, many extremist black nationalist groups adopting Islamic ideology (which is ironic considering Islam played a big role in the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, e.g., Muslims couldn’t enslave other Muslims so they enslaved pagan nature-worshiping Africans, similar to how Christians enslaved European pagans)

Double Standard between Black Lives Matter and BLEXIT by Quinton Mitchell

Why doesn’t BLEXT get as much flack as BLM?

There are so many bot accounts discrediting Black Lives Matters on social media platforms such as Instragram, Twitter (now X), etc. Bots aside, it is a popular talking point to muckrake against Black Lives Matters and you’ve seen this in the Right-Wing eco-system of Charlie Kirk, Candance Owens especially, Tim Poole, Gavin McInnes, etc.

With BLM Global Network having been exposed for money issues such as with Patrisse Cullors buying a 6 Million dollar home, using funds for a birthday party (which she supposedly paid back), and hiring her family members for a near 1 million dollar security contract, this gave the Right Wing the ammunition they needed to further perpetuate anti-black sentiments such as black people aren’t capable, that we are “race baiters”, that we blame all our problems on white people yet seems to want white people’s money, etc.

Anti-blackness runs deep across the globe and its not just the West. Perception does matter, which is why I was disappointed that BLM didn’t do an aggressive PR campaign to own the situation, get a head of it, and create a pathway forward.

Rather, the leaders faded away such as Cullors posting “crystal mommy” Instagram posts or Alicia Garza going off to start other non-profit projects. The attacks of the Right Wing, the money scandal, and other issues such as social media and the news showcasing situations of black citizens attacking Asian Americans, the system got what it wanted…letting “black people” get hopeful, just to pull the rug from up under our feet, so we end up embarrassed after appearing as “mouthy” “angry”, etc.

It is exactly what the Right Wing wanted, and BLM’s anonymity allowed them to use BLM as a means of recruiting arngry white males to Far Right causes, which includes people such as the Buffalo Mass Shooter. Sure, these weren’t BLMs intent but it was a result.

See: https://mitchellrg.com/2023/06/18/reverse-psychology-with-black-lives-matter-solidifying-white-supremacy-and-a-possible-defense-of-george-soros-by-quinton-mitchell/

But, I think there’s still hope for BLM but it will take work. PR, scholarships, auditing reports by legit third parties such as Ernst Young, conference calls, grants, an aggressive media campaign, etc. Or, the new non-profits that Garza created need to be absorbed into BLM.

But, regardless…

What about BLEXIT? What are they doing to help the black community, especially since they have more access to billionaire money as opposed to Left Wing organizations who have to scrap for small dollar donations? Candance Owens according to the Daily Beast (2022) article by Kelly Weill, titled: Blexit’s Finances Are Slumping – but Its Paycheck to Candance Owens Keeps Coming, stated that Owens received $230,000 in 2022.

I repeat, BLEXIT has way more access to fundraising and capital potential but it doesn’t seem like there is a coordinated effort to help the black community, but rathe piece-milling grants here and there. For example, Turning Point USA with Owen’s ally Charlie Kirk has received money from billionaires. “Turning Point USA is funded by numerous right-of-center foundations and big Republican donors.

According to InfluenceWatch, TPUSA received $275,000 from the Ed Uihlein Family Foundation, the Rauner Family Foundation (run by former Illinois Governor Bruce Raunder (R)) gave $150,000, the Folgia Family Foundation gave $210,000, and the Marcus Foundation gave $72,500. TPUSA has also received smaller donations from the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, the Michael and Andrea Leven Family Foundation, the Huizenga Foundation, the Mike Miller Foundation, Dunn’s Foundation for the Advancement of Right Wing Thinking, the Einhorn Family Foundation, Richard and Helen DeVos Foundation (run by the in-laws of former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos), the Gianforte Family Foundation (run by Montana Governor Greg Gianforte (R)), the Thomas Patrick Morrison Foundation, and the Family Taxpayer’s Foundation.” This doesn’t include the various sponsors such as the Heritage Foundation, the National Rifle Association, the Reason Foundation, the Foundation for Economic Education, PragerU, the Job Creators Network, the Leadership Institute, and the Generation Opportunity Institute. These people and organizations have enough money to buy entire neighborhoods, pay for people’s private schooling or college, but the goal of BLEXIT isn’t help but rather pushing anti-black liberation politics to support the capitalist system as is, which means supporting the 1%, as is.

BLEXIT even might have Russian ties through a weird degree of separations. Gianforte for example, in a financial disclosure forms filed in 2017, Gianforte indicated that he owned $150,000 worth of shares in VanEck Vectors Russia ETF and $92,400 in the IShares MSCF Russia ETF, totaling just under $250,000 in two exchange-traded funds focused on investments in Russia. The investments attracted attention because they included shares in Gazprom and Rosneft, which have been subject to U.S. sanctions since the Russian invasion of Crimea, but because the per-person ownership stake in these companies is so small in such index funds, they are exempt from sanctions.[59] After the issue was raised in Gianforte’s 2017 congressional campaign, Gianforte stated that his Russia holdings were a small portion of his overall investments and pledged to place all of his assets in a blind trust if elected. [Sources: (1) https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/apr/28/greg-gianforte-republican-candidate-congress-russia-companies. (2) https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/investment-russia-becomes-focus-congressional-race%5D

TPUSA has ties to Lynde and Harry Bradley are related to the Allen Bradley company which is now Rockwell Automation. Harry Lynde Bradley was one of the founders of the John Birch Society which are the group that paved the way for far-right, New World Order, anti-UN conspiracy theorists such as Alex Jones with InfoWars. The John Birch Society had an early member, Revilo P. Oliver, who left the JBS because he felt it was “too Jewish” and went to help found Neo Nazi organizations alongside William Luther Price (the author of The Turner Diaries).

Republican hypocrisy on talks of military diversity, equity and inclusion. Officers don’t test for rank & Physical Testing isn’t even factored. By Quinton Mitchell (Honorably Discharged USAF Veteran and US Army Brat)

The military is not as meritocratic as what people think. Officers don’t test like enlisted personnel do.

See other link for extra reading: https://mitchellrg.com/2023/03/15/basics-of-federal-contracting-opinions-on-us-foreign-policy-and-americas-recruit-problem-by-quinton-mitchell/

Republicans on their constant quest for Culture War, as a means of brainwashing the public to hate progress as the rich get richer, our environment goes down the dumps, and capitalism is running out of things to exploit as we all live part time in toxic digital spaces, etc., are now saying that the military does not need diversity, or more specifically “diversity quotas” or “affirmative action”, and that the military should only be about meritocracy.

These Congressional discussions are in the wake of the Supreme Court banning affirmative action at certain private colleges, which has led many to think this will create precedent throughout the entire college admissions process across the county.

Still hot on their victory, Republicans seem to be operating under the mindset of “we have an inch, so we are going to take a mile” mentality. This means that they are taking any concept of diversity to bat, even if diversity is a force multiplier when it comes to national defense. By force multiplier, I mean something that gives the US military a strategic advantage and create synergies, e.g., (for example), the ability to have people from various backgrounds, the ability to have people who speak various languages which are vital for translating, the fact that foreign nations might relate more to people that look like them as opposed to seeing a bunch of white males who may be seen as colonizers or invaders, etc.

Also, Republicans like many conservatives assume that diversity is forced, i.e., that traditional minority groups are only in college, business, or the military because of crutches at the expense of white people, when many people of minority groups are in positions of power because of meritocracy, i.e., their hard work, personality, timing, how they “played the game”, etc., and not because of their identity.

Republicans have this agenda of stewing white rage, despite white people still being the majority, and many immigrant groups that are non-Anglo-Saxon, i.e., Germanic and/or Celtic groups (i.e., Northern and Central Europeans), such as Latinos still identifying as white in many cases, since Hispanic/Latino are ethnicities and not races (though we in the USA often see Latino as a different race since it’s based on a “different programming”, i.e., it is more Catholic and Spanish, rather than Germanic based and Protestant, but also Many Hispanic Latinos in the US are Mestizo, notably of Chicano heritage meaning they have partial indigenous American roots).

The interesting thing is that the military is not as meritocratic as civilians might think or how conservative veterans may explain things on “the inside” as they flaunt their military service to silence those who didn’t serve.

For example, officers don’t test for their rank as compared to enlisted personnel who must test for their rank. So how is this meritocratic?

First off, because of the Mike Rowe Dirty Work sentiment more prevalent in conservative politics that stresses that college is overrated as compared to blue-collar (working with your hands) skilled work, and adding on the fact that conservatives such as Tucker Carlson have called colleges something akin to “Communist indoctrination centers”,  I find it interesting that in order to be an officer one must have a college degree (so I guess they fail the “anti-woke” tests”?).

Secondly, that those who gain a commission as an officer in the United States military don’t have to have test for rank or promotion.

So, while conservatives attempt to gas-light the public into believing that our ever-growing progressive society is “anti-white”, especially anti-white straight Christian male, they fail to mention that officers, yes – our higher paid, college educated, quasi-fraternity like leaders – don’t have to test for rank.

Promotions are almost guaranteed until you get to certain levels, i.e., a junior enlisted officer may have different expectations as opposed to field grade (or, mid-grade) officers, general level officers, etc.

Yes, officers like enlisted must study for their career development (such as they will go to Technical Training or TDY, i.e., Tour of Duty, for advanced learning), yet when it comes to enlisted forces, they must pass courses to get pass junior enlisted to the non-commissioned officer ranks (sergeants and above depending on branch).

For example, when I was in the military, I did trainings or course work as far as my job (sometimes among officers) as means of getting certified from an apprentice to a journeyman, but when it came to promotion from E4 (Senior Airman) to E5 (Staff Sergeant) I had to test and pass (a two part exam on my job skills and another on general military history/etiquette, etc.), whereas officers simply gained rank on time, board reviews, and behavior without testing. Does that make sense?

Simply put, to do your job you need to have training, but to promote, testing on your job is required for enlisted but not for officers, even though if an officer does poorly in job course work this may be counted against them on their Officer Performance Report (OPR) but it may not hinder them from achieving rank, yet it depends on what higher ups determine. “Testing” only really becomes important once officers start needing War College level training where they learn how to command in foreign theaters, command multiple forces where some may be foreign militaries, etc., but these may not happen until you hit Major or Lt. Colonel (or, equivalent type ranks).

So, is it really meritocracy in the officer ranks? You can make it to Captain or Major and not be that bright of a person or not be battle tested, yet you made those ranks on time rather than necessary proven tested aptitude.

Separately, in the Air Force at least, a person’s Physical Testing scores aren’t factored in to rank promotions, and adding insult to injury, passing requirements for rank promotions vary form year to year, meaning some years you may need an 85% to pass, whereas others you may need a 95% to pass.

So, there’s no clear way of comparing troops, especially between officers and enlisted, let alone between enlisted and enlisted. For example, I had leaders who tested lower than what I scored on my promotion exams, and were way more out of shape (barely pass their PT tests), etc. In theory, there’s people who partied through college, did ROTC, and now are making 2.5x or more than enlisted personnel.

Ironically, and adding more insult to injury, officer promotions such as in the US Air Force as based more on achieving goals, community service, leadership activities, etc. It’s more like a corporate annual review you might see with your boss in corporate America, after you have a few quarterly or a mid-year check in.

Officers are evaluated more on a “good ole boy” and “peer review” system, meaning that at higher levels that there might be favoritism when getting selected since you essentially interview before a board. Boards occur in enlisted ranks but often only senior enlisted ranks, yet, still enlisted personnel must test for rank.

Without saying it, you may be discriminated against such as whether you were an “Academy cadet” as opposed to an ROTC, Enlisted-to-Officer, or general commissioned officer (i.e., a person off the street with a degree who gets a commission after doing Officer Candidate School or Office Training Schools depending on branch).

So why is it like this?

The simplest answer in my opinion is that enlisted do the actual work, whereas officers are in leadership roles, so it’s not so much about knowing your job but rather ensuring your workers are doing their job. The concept of officer’s dates to medieval times when feudalism existed.

If you want a true meritocracy you would abolish the two-tier enlisted and officer system and have promotions be based on education, testing, PT scores, interviews, communication skills, etc.

Any links between the New Bedford Highway Serial Killings and the Cheryl Araujo Assault Case? by Quinton Mitchell

Were the New Bedford Serial Killings a response to the jailing of Portuguese American men responsible for the Sexual Assault of Carol Araujo?

With the Gilgio Beach Serial Killer, also known as the Long Island Serial Killer, being in custody (though the suspect has not be convicted formally of a crime by a judge and jury), I am curious will the infamous New Bedford Serial Killer finally have his day in court? With new breakthroughs in science such as family genealogy history, authorities have caught the infamous Golden State Serial Killer (who was a former police officer) and now, most likely the Long Island Serial Killer.

Disclaimer: This post will talk about sexual assault, so if anyone has issue with that subject please be warned. Charities that help with domestic abuse, sex workers protections and sexual assault include (1) https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/stop-domestic-abuse/, (2) https://pineapplesupport.org/, (3) https://swopusa.org/, (4) https://www.crimestoppersusa.org/, etc. [Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with these organizations. It is your own responsibility to do your own due diligence if you choose to donate or cooperate with any of the organizations I listed above. I have no fiduciary or financial responsibility to these organizations or to any readers of this post)].

It dawned on me, that I never heard of any links between the New Bedford Highway Serial Killings which lasted March 1988 – April 1989, 11 victims in a short time-frame of 7 months, affecting the highly Portuguese American community of New Bedford, Massachusetts (also high numbers of Cape Verdean), with that of the previous 1983 gang-sexual assault case involving Cheryl Araujo which happened in New Bedford at a place called Big Dan’s Tavern (now closed) located at 421-423 Belleville Avenue [See article: https://wbsm.com/new-bedford-big-dans-for-sale/%5D.

The victims of the New Bedford Highway Killings were (1) Robbin Lynn Rhodes who went missing sometime in March or April 1988, (2) Rochelle Clifford Dopierala who went missing sometime during late April 1988, (3) Deborah Lynn McConnell who when missing May 1988, (4) Debra Medeiros who went missing May 27, 1988, (5) Christina Monteiro of Cape Verdean descent was last seen in May 1988, (6) Marilyn Cardoza-Roberts last seen sometime in June 1988 and she was neighbors with victim Christina Monteiro, (7) Nancy Lee Paiva last seen walking home from a bar called “Whisper’s Pub” on July 7, 1988, (8) Debra Greenlaw Demello last seen on July 11, 1988, (9) Mary Rose Santos, last seen July 16, 1988 after going to the Quarterdeck Lounge, (10) Sandra Botelho assumed to have gone missing around August 11, 1988, and (11) Dawn Mendes, last seen on September 4, 1988

Yet, I want to be cautious to link the cases.

My conclusion is that there may not be any links between the two cases considering there were so many known suspects with the New Bedford Killings including Kenneth Ponte, a lawyer, who had ties to some of the victims, and was known to carry a badge and gun because he was given an honorary deputy status from NBPD.

Ponte had dated Robbin Rhodes, a victim, and represented Mary Santos in a civil case (going so far as helping her boyfriend make flyers once she disappeared).

Without a Ponte link, Debra Greenlaw Demello was in possession of belongings that belonged to Nancy Paiva (which means they have been friends, or, she randomly found her belongings in area they both frequented, or a killer gave her a gift, but many serial killers keep mementos, rather than giving them out).

Marilyn Cardoza Roberts was neighbors with Christina Monteiro, possibly meaning the same John and/or Killer knew them both, or one saw something they weren’t supposed to see, or they had a same drug dealer, etc.

It’s also important to note that in America, sniffing cocaine (popular in the 1970s and early 80s) had already given way to crack cocaine by the mid-to-late eighties which was based on earlier freebasing (which was dangerous due the flammable ether). Crack addicts can be very erratic and sometimes violent.

To this day, if you review videos about New Bedford, you will still see many stories about crime.

New Bedford is and always been a “hard place”. From drunken whalers of the Moby Dick era, to modern day Latin King drug lords. Simply YouTube videos saying “New Bedford Crime”. It is insane. Even back in the 1970s, there were riots in the town because of police brutality. [See link: https://wbsm.com/memories-new-bedford-1970-riots/%5D

Above image is from Georgia Marie’s YouTube Video. See Video below. The location of Mary Santos is not on this screenshot but her body found lower that the 4 females near 195 near Highway 88.

Relating to the 1983 rape case, Cheryl faced a lot of hate for her accusations including from women within the Portuguese community, so if the women were “protective of their men”, just image what the men must have felt [Watch the Netfilx documentary, Trial by Media which has some of best collection of historical video coverage of the trial]. This patriarchal society that did not welcome outsiders, but were vulnerable to blue-collar economic downturns in the midst of one of America’s worst drug pandemics.

After the conviction of her assailants, Cheryl fled to Florida but later died in a car accident.

It is a theory but were the New Bedford Highway killings a reprisal for the conviction of the men who assaulted Cheryl Araujo? Either the convicted themselves, or, extended family members or friends living in the United States to those of the convicted men, or extended family or friends of the convicted men who had links to Portugal itself?

Or, the killer could have been a member of the community, unrelated or linked to any of the accused and convicted men, who simply hated women (with, possibly, Cheryl’s assailants’ conviction further exacerbating his own hatred of women.

Yet, from all I have watched about the case, there doesn’t seem to have been much talk of sexual assault relating to the New Bedford Serial Killings, so it could be a case of a larger drug conspiracy, maybe with links to dirty lawyer Kenneth Ponte. Such as a larger gang taking out the women because they or a few knew too much, and/or had drug related debts, i.e., possibly victims of human trafficking rings (they get drugs but have to pimp themselves out).

Or, did the treatment of Cheryl Araujo indicate a larger dismissive culture of sexual assault within the area, considering the later New Bedford Highway killings were of sex workers or addicts, so maybe a similar culture existed always in the fishing blue collar community not far from Boston, Providence, Newport, and other dense urban areas.

Note: Jodi Foster starred in the film The Accused which was a factional re-telling of the real events that occurred in New Bedford, MA, with the film with Foster taking place in Washington State.

Six men were arrested and charged in connection with the rape of Cheryl Araujo; four, Victor Raposo, John Cordeiro, Joseph Vieira and Daniel Silva, were charged with aggravated rape; and two, Virgilio Medeiros and Jose Medeiros (no relation), were charged with “joint enterprise,” (i.e., encouraging an illegal act and not acting to stop it) but he Mederios were acquitted. According to Encyclopedia.com (n.d.), “The defense continued to characterize the woman as a drunken liar, and John Cordeiro testified that “she was enjoying herself.”

It is interesting to note that all 6 men involved were undocumented workers being sheltered by the Portuguese community in a time where immigration enforcement was easy to slip by. All one had to do is fly from Portugal and then bleed into the Portuguese community.

A question I have is, was any sort of DNA evidence taken from the men? I doubt it because in the early 1980s there wasn’t DNA technology. In an alternative world, all the men would have had saliva, hair, blood, or even fingerprint residue collected, and today that evidence could be tested against evidence stored with the Massachusetts State Police in relation to the New Bedford Highway Kills case.

According to Mia Michael (2018) of the Historical Journal of Massachusetts, with her piece titled: New Bedford’s Infamous 1983 Rape Case: Defending the Portuguese-American Community, published by the Institute for Massachusetts Studies and Westfield State University, it was stated that ,

“At the same time, personal details and photographs of the accused were published throughout the ordeal. All six men, described at one point as “resident aliens of Portuguese descent,” lacked American citizenship. Daniel Silva, twenty-six years old at the time of the assault and considered its instigator, was a part-time factory worker and agricultural laborer who “lived around the corner” from Big Dan’s; originally from the Azores, he had resided in the United States for six years. Twenty-seven-year-old Joseph (Jose) Vieira was a husband and father of two who lived in Connecticut and worked on a dairy farm. A former Portuguese soldier, he had been in the country for less than five years. John Cordeiro, twenty-four and unemployed, lived in New Bedford and had immigrated to the United States twelve years prior. Also of New Bedford, Victor Raposo was twenty-two and the father of a toddler; unemployed at the time of the rape, he found work within the month as a handyman and painter. Raposo, who had come to New Bedford at the age of five, already had a significant criminal record: in 1979, he was convicted of assault with a dangerous weapon and in October of 1982 was found guilty of indecent exposure. Virgilio Medeiros, twenty-three, and Jose Medeiros (unrelated), twenty-two, lived in New Bedford as well. Virgilio Medeiros, reportedly out of work at the time of the crime, found employment within the year as a shipyard laborer; he had been brought to the U.S. at age nine. Jose Medeiros, a native of the Azores, was an unemployed landscaper. Each of the six men was tried for aggravated rape.” [Source: https://www.westfield.ma.edu/historical-journal/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/2018-Winter-Michael-New-Bedfords-Infamous-1983-Rape-Case.pdf%5D

Further, according to Michael (2018) Portuguese-Americans marched by the thousands through New Bedford and Fall River to protest the verdicts and what they characterized as justiça crucificada (“justice crucified”). Comparisons were made to the contentious criminal convictions and executions of Italian immigrants Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti six decades prior (Michael, 2018). The Big Dan’s case still attracted attention in April of 1984, when Vieira and Raposo managed to avoid deportation and thereby remain in proximity to their families in Massachusetts and Connecticut (Michael, 2018). There is an episode about Cheryl’s case on Netflix

The question then becomes per my theory is (A) When did each man get out of jail, and for the men not in jail what were they doing around the times of the murders themselves?, (B) Did any of the other men’s relatives or close associates either American citizens or Portuguese nationals commit any sort of sex related crimes in the USA or in Portugal, and if so when and where are these individuals?, (C) maybe the assailant was not involved in the Cheryl case but maybe the case, (D) is it possible that a person with police experience was involved, considering it took so long to discover some of the victims even though the victims weren’t located far away from New Bedford?, (E) Long haul truckers or workers using work trucks are notorious of using sex workers and there have been serial killers associated with the trade of trucking, so did any of these men or any relatives/associates do long-haul trucking or were doing contractor work in the area.

Some theories have some of the victims to the New Bedford has possibly being killed by drug dealers. Maybe the women got in debt, couldn’t pay it off, and once they proved too strung out to do forced sex work and come up with the money they were killed. A warning to others who didn’t pay up their debts.

For example, if Ponte knew sex workers who ended up dead, then why is it a stretch to think he didn’t know of dealers or pimps? Maybe Ponte’s relationship with police scarred the dealers and/or pimps, and they went “cleaning up”, making Ponte more paranoid? Ponte as a local lawyer with underworld ties could have been useful to the police.

Also, even though we often want to believe it’s one crazy person based on the stereotype of the unassuming man next door who is a serial killer, there have been plenty of cases of team-killers such as the Tool Box Killers in LA, the Ripper Crew in Chicago, multiple serial killers at the same time, but also gangs.

The criteria to be a serial killer doesn’t mean being a sexual sadist, but its about numbers. A mobster, such as Sammy the Bull, who had his own Youtube channel oddly, in theory can be a serial killer even though we lump that term with people like Gacy, Dahmer, Bundy, etc.

Yet, these killings remind me of Houston based I-45 “Killing Fields” where the murders happened southside a major metro-area with a busy interstate leading towards the sea. Some think there were many killers involved in this area. For example, Baton Rogue, LA had three active serial killers in the 1990s, and California has the three Freeway Killers in the late 1970s easily with a known total body count over 50+ people.

With a simple Google Search of Victor Raposo, I came upon a Duns and Bradstreert (a business registration site) for a man by the name. Could be coincidence like how a John Smith isn’t uncommon.

But, this man is Portuguese and seems to have owned some type of accounting or tax help firm.

Considering the men involved in Cheryl’s case were not US citizens, it seems after release from jail, some many have stayed while others might have been deported. Raposo’s address is listed on D&B at 7540-125, SANTIAGO DO CACÉM Portugal, which is a city south of Libson. Let’s say that there is NO LINK between the Big Dave 6 Man Gang Rape of Cheryl Araujo in 1983 to that of the late 1980s New Bedford Highway Serial Killings. We can make a determination that there are likely some international links, because one of the rapists in the Big Dave case may be living in Portugal, and later a suspect in the Serial Killings may have been in Portugal. Essentially, a lot of back and forth traffic between New Bedford and Portugal and crimes happen.

Ways to Pay for College by Quinton Mitchell

  1. GI Bill Programs such as the Montgomery GI Bill and Post 9/11 GI Bill (with the latter seeming to be the standard now, e.g., I used Post 9/11), Tuition Assistance, Tuition Assistance Top Up Programs (if the cost of course exceeds the amount covered by federal TA), Enlisted College Loan Repayment Programs. Note: Post 9/11 used to have a time cap but with the Forever GI Bill Harry W. Colmery Veterans Education Assistance  Act has expanded a lot of opportunities for the 9/11 GI Bill. Note: Always consult the VA.
  2. The VA’s Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program
  3. Federal US Service Academies (West Point, Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, and, yes the Coast Guard and Merchant Marines, etc.); Senior Military College such as The Citadel and Military Junior Colleges such as New Mexico Military Institute (which can provide a pipeline into a Senior Service Academy but they also offer ECP or Early Commissioning Program which is more catered to the Army and allows cadets to commission in two-years as opposed to four-years in the Army Reserve or National Guard),
  4. ROTC in general
  5. Some States offer Running Start-type programs permitting high school students to attend local community colleges while in high school and obtain an Associates Degree. So imagine being 18 with an Associates Degree for example from Tacoma Community College, then going to a 4 year school, only needing 2 years (or taking your time), doing ROTC such as Pacific Lutheran University or going to a Military Junior College and then getting commissioned as a 2nd LT in the Army Reserve and National Guard, potentially serving at Camp Murray in Tacoma, and then using the TA from that to attend graduate school, let’s way UW-Seattle or Tacoma. Basically, in this list, you can see how you can potentially mix strategies for affordable education.
  6. Some states offer Hope Scholarships such as Georgia which is funded by the lottery and pays for in-state public college tuition, but states how they administer these programs vary, e.g., some pay all, others might only give grants.
  7. Segal Education Awards through programs such as the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, and I want to also include Teach USA. Also, many colleges are Matching Institutions. If I remember right, it is taxable however.
  8. Trade Union scholarships such as the American Postal Worker Union (https://www.apwu.org/scholarship-programs), Communication Workers of America (https://cwa-union.org/pages/beirne), Union Plus (https://www.unionplus.org/benefits/education/union-plus-scholarships), United Auto Workers (https://uaw.org/apply-now-union-plus-scholarship-program/). AFL-CIO branches through States,(https://www.massaflcio.org/scholarships), etc. International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (http://www.ibew.org/FoundersScholarship).
  9. Corporate Scholarships and Corporate/Employer-based Tuition Reimbursement Programs
  10. Private scholarships such as organizations such as 4-H, Kiwanis (Key Club), etc.
  11. Certain states such as Washington State offer Head Start Programs giving high school students the ability to graduate with an Associates before high graduation.
  12. 529 Savings Plans (Note: I am not a financial consultant. Always seek professional advice) which is sort of like an “educational mutual fund and savings account”.
  13. Pell Grants

The FIFA Tournament of the Roman Emperors by Quinton Mitchell

Not all the Roman Emperors were Italian and/or European. It is important to remember that Rome was a multi-ethnic and racial society where of course differences were acknowledged but the ancient world’s view of race or ethnicity was different than our modern concept. With the rise of Right Wing politics appropriating Roman imagery, it’s important to remember that Rome was a melting pot.

Imagine for fun if Rome still existed and they liked playing soccer (football) but each country that competed had to align to the birthplace of the Roman Emperors. Call it the Emperor’s Cup for fun. This list is up to the Macedonian Dynasty of the Eastern Roman Empire, because by the 800s in the former Western Empire, the Franks were already on the rise and would rule the West thus ending Eastern claim over Central or Western Europe.
